Resident Advisor (RA)
Building a supportive and welcoming community for a total of 106 students in the residence halls by planning and hosting events that help residents connect, relax, and feel at home. I also help mediate conflicts, like when roommates aren’t getting along, by encouraging open and respectful conversations. While on duty, I handle a variety of situations, from checking in on residents to responding to more serious challenges, and I do my best to make sure everyone feels safe and supported. This experience has helped me recognize that many people face challenges that aren’t immediately visible. A smile doesn’t always reflect a perfect life, and it’s important to approach others with empathy and understanding.
North County Recreation & Park District
Created, organized and lead hands-on, kid friendly science experiment lessons to children ages 5-12 to teach the basics of science. Each week different kids attended the experiments with a total of around 25 individuals. Most of the kids came from a minority background where opportunities are limited. The ultimate goal is to bridge the gap between minorities and STEM. This experience reminded me why I chose to pursue science in the first place and how meaningful it is to inspire the next generation to believe they belong in it too.
