Resident Advisor (RA)
I helped build a supportive and welcoming community for 106 residents in the residence halls by planning and hosting events that encouraged connection, relaxation, and a sense of belonging. I regularly supported residents by mediating conflicts, including roommate disagreements, through open, respectful communication. While on duty, I assisted a residential community of over 1,000 students, responding to a wide range of situations, from routine check-ins to more serious concerns; while prioritizing safety and well-being. This experience deepened my understanding that many challenges are not immediately visible and reinforced the importance of approaching others with empathy, patience, and understanding.
North County Recreation & Park District
Created, organized and lead hands-on, kid friendly science experiment lessons to children ages 5-12 to teach the basics of science. Each week different kids attended the experiments with a total of around 25 individuals. Most of the kids came from a minority background where opportunities are limited. The ultimate goal is to bridge the gap between minorities and STEM. This experience reminded me why I chose to pursue science in the first place and how meaningful it is to inspire the next generation to believe they belong in it too.
